Wagner Farmhouse Fire

On January 29, 2014 our Fire Department’s President and his wife lost their old farmhouse to a horrible fire. One of the coldest days of the year our fire fighters and crews from mutual aid helped us try to save their home.  Firefighters and equipment were brought in from Cherry Grove, Sheffield, Clarendon, Kane, Ludlow, Glade, Youngsville, and Pleasant. Equipment was freezing up because of the cold. Firefighters were  fighting the frozen equipment along with the frigid temps taking a toll on them. The fire started before 1:30 and was burning on into the next day. The Wagner’s lost pretty much everything in their home but the clothes on their backs. The next day several firefighters went back and looked through the debris and found photo albums and stacks of photos and brought them to the fire department in totes to see if any photos could be saved. With so much fire, water, smoke and ice on every thing, no one knew if anything could be saved.  Also important documents were found, birth certificates, diplomas and more. Even some china that belonged to the  grandmother was found. Friends of the family spent a couple days going through the photos and papers and were able to save a lot of them. Long days and lots of work are ahead for the Wagner family while they adjust to their loss. Done with permission from Jim and Mary Lou Wagner.
